The real star of Sail Ishmael….
A Morgan 461, hull # 42. Built in 1982 in Florida by Morgan Yachts (thank you Charley Morgan!), Ishmael is a 46′ center cockpit sloop. She embodies all of what they call a “blue-water cruiser” meaning she is big, heavy, and gloriously slow and sturdy. She spent her life in the Caribbean, until we brought her to Lake Michigan in 2011 for the next chapter of her journey.
She sleeps about 9 comfortably, has two heads (bathrooms) and yes… the rumors are true… she has a bathtub. A unique feature of Ishmael for a boat in the Great Lakes is her self sufficiency, which is what drew us to her in the first place. Most boats on the Great Lakes have limitations when they are away from the dock without shore-power hooked up. There is nothing Ishmael can’t do while sailing; refrigerator, stove/oven, hot/fresh water (enough to shower even), air conditioning and heat, we have even made ice in the freezer at anchor. She is our home and Lake Michigan our back yard, and we are looking forward to sharing just how amazing Ishmael really is.
